Monica's Happiness Project

I recently heard Gretchen Rubin, the author of "The Happiness Project", speak about the year she spent 'test driving' all manner of theories and studies, from scientific to spiritual, about how to be happier.

Not that she was unhappy, she simply decided to be open to being happier.

In her #1 best selling book she eloquently shares her experiences and shows us that this topic, which can be taken far too lightly and far too seriously, is unique to each of us.

I frequently notice how quickly time passes and as I hear so many others say, it goes faster with each passing year. Since February is the month of love I want to sieze the moment and give us the opportunity to join together and support one another in our own Happiness Project! This is a no-pressure deal: the goal is to be happier, so we will help each other find ways to our own happy ideals.

Start by visiting the web site and getting to know the project a little better. Then email or call me to tell me that you want to join the group. We will have monthly discussions and set up ways to check in with each other.

Next: go get the book! The Library has 2 copies that you can reserve and the local independent book sellers are carrying it as well.

We take wining, dining and traveling to extraordinary levels!

Monica & Mark partner with Doumina Whyman, The Enthusiastic Traveler, to take 18 people on a fabulous 7 night, 8 day gourmet food & wine tour of Piemonte & Tuscany

You will encounter the local people, culture, food, wine and traditions of these amazing regions as no other visitor can.

Doumina & Monica created a food and wine tour that includes exclusive meals, hands-on cooking classes, famous art, historic towns, historic churches, ancient ruins, Small Vineyard’s wineries, and so much more.

If you love food and wine, and you want to experience Italy, rather than to simply visit there, this is the trip for you. Contact Monica for more information and to get your name on the list for this amazing trip.

~Salute!

The Trip in 2010: October 21-28

We will enjoy the best culinary dishes in both of these regions as well as wines from Small Vineyard Estates. These are small production wines that are difficult to find, and we have a few of them here for you to taste in the cafe.

Local Art in the Café-Ongoing

Come in and check it out!

We were so completely honored and surprised in 2008 when you voted us one of the Best Art Galleries in Central Kitsap! We took third place to two actual art galleries and we just think that is completely fabulous!!

Team Bakery is proud to present local artists and authors for our community to enjoy so thank you for showing us that you love how we do that!

Upstairs we are honored to be able to display the works of Timothy Johnsrude, a Canadian immigrant, who has been involved in photography since he was 12 years old. After moving from Manitoba to North Dakota with his family, he graduated high school and joined the Navy, working and living in places like Naples, Italy, Kayseri, Turkey, Bahrain, and Washington DC. After 22 years of uniformed service, he and his family have settled in Bremerton, Washington.

Although color images are popular due to their emotional appeal, Tim also works with monochrome film to express his logical and intellectual side. He shoots primarily 35mm film, but also uses digital media where it fits. His tools of choice include many of the modern classic cameras, such as Nikon’s Nikkormats and F series cameras, Pentax Spotmatics, Konica Autoreflex, and the Konica Hexar

In the stairwell we have some wonderful works by kids at Kitsap Art School of the Arts You will be very impressed by these kids and their talents!

We also have some beautiful jewelry displayed and for sale upstairs. Debra Saldivar, of Luna Azul Designs won 'Best of Show' at the September 2008 Art Walk, and we love having her beautiful beading techniques, wire work and metal smithing for you to admire, or better yet to take home and wear!

Downstairs enjoy the mixed media/watercolors by Janet Hayford and Deanna Hansen. These ladies are two of our favorite customers and favorite artists, and they have adorned our walls with beautiful seasonal scenes.

Chris Hughes of Harmony Artworks has crafted the dream catchers that are in the windows, both upstairs and down.

We also have books by local authors:

Columnist Sally Santana, Poet Elizabeth Ellen, Novelists Wally Carlson, Sarah Nilson,Natalie Newport, and Chefs Roberto Russo and Jeremy McLauchlan all have signed copies of their books for sale, and We have signed copies of the Kitsap Master Gardeners Calendar! They all make great gifts!

NEXT ART WALK: Friday March 12, 6-8 pm

As always: You bring donations* for the CK Food Bank and our less fortunate neighbors, and you get a cookie and/or a taste of our house wines!

*Preferred donations include:

Non-perishable food items, sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing, Backpacks, pre-paid gas cards, travel sized toiletries, pre-paid phone cards, grocery store gift cards, and money so that we can buy the things our neighbors need most.

And as usual our coffee is complimentary for everyone.
